Art Yarn - Silk Sunrise

I finally did some destashing this week, pouncing on some silk I bought YEARS ago.  I purchased some gorgeous silk lap (it's sort of like a giant silk hanky/matawa with bits of cocoon in it) that was dyed in brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and pink.  I don't know how I managed to resist it so long - look at how lovely it is.
I decided to spin this in a textured, arty style due to the natural textures in the silk.  You'd think silk would be delicate and just slip though the fingers, but goodness this stuff took strength to draft!  Silk is one of the strongest natural textiles so it's possible to spin a gossamer fine thread that is surprisingly strong.

I ended up plying this with some soft but lonely BFL that I had previously spun up.  After a wash/soak and drying, it turned out so very lovely.  I just love the soft textures and beautiful sunrise colors.  It would make an incredible shawl!

These two skeins are available here if you are interested.  Thank you for stopping by!
